The Line: Los Angeles Angels -154 / Kansas City Royals +144 --- Over/Under: 7
The Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels continue their ALDS in game two at Angels Stadium.
The Kansas City Royals weren't given much notice in the first game of the ALDS but nobody told them as they squeezed past the Angels 3-2 in eleven innings. Starter Jason Vargas had struggled to end the year but held the Angels to a pair of solo homers over six frames while seven relievers held the Los Angeles attack at bay. The Royals offense did their damage on four hits with a Mike Moustakas homer in the 11th winning it while Alcides Escobar and Omar Infante drove in runs. Rookie right hander Yordano Ventura takes the bump versus the Los Angeles Angels for the second time. Ventura made an appearance against the A's in the Wild Card with a two run homer allowed in 1/3 of an inning.
The Los Angeles Angels were a feared offense in 2014 but were not a factor in Thursday's ALDS opener. The work on the mound was spectacular but in the end Fernando Salas surredered a solo bomb in the top of the 11th to absorb the loss. Jered Weaver threw well enough to win with two runs plated on three hits and a pair of base on balls through seven frames. The bats simply struggled with only four hits and five walks to lean on with David Freese and Chris Iannetta providing the scoring with solo jacks. Matt Shoemaker is scheduled to take the ball in the second game of the ALDS versus the Kansas City Royals Friday. Shoemaker is 16-4 in 2014 with an ERA just north of three.
The Angels have to be disappointed in their performance Thursday and a loss in game means a whole lot of trouble. I'll back the Angels once again with their best on the bump in a must win game two...
