Los Angeles Angels +102 / New York Yankees -112 O/U: 8.5
The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels will match up in MLB activity on Monday to kick off their series.
The Yankees just finished up with a four-game set versus the Royals this weekend. New York lost the first game Thursday 6-1, but managed wins in the other three matchups 6-2, 9-2 and 7-6.
For the Monday opener, the Yankees will be sending out JA Happ for the start. Across his 18.2 innings and 0-2 record this year, Happ has a 7.23 ERA with 17 Ks and six walks.
Over on the Angels’ side, they played the Mariners this weekend. LA dropped the first three games of that series 11-10, 5-3 and 6-5, then on Sunday the Angels prevented the sweep with an 8-6 victory.
For Monday’s game, the Angels will be starting Matt Harvey. This season so far, Harvey sports an 0-2 record with a 9.64 ERA and has struggled mightily.
The Yankees are 4-1 in their last five overall and 12-4 in their last 16 in game one of a series. New York is 1-4 in their last five versus the AL West and 5-1 in Happ’s last six road starts.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 1-6 in their last seven in game one of a series and 0-4 in their last four versus the AL East. The under is 24-11-2 in LA’ s last 37 Monday games and 35-15-3 in their last 53 versus a left-handed starter.
Over his four outings this year, Happ has three relative stinkers and one decent start. The one good one was in his last appearance, where he went 6.1 innings with three earned in a no-decision versus Boston. Combined in Happ’s last other three he’s given up 12 earned across 12.1 innings, and that’s just not going to get it done with New York’s injured lineup and underperforming bullpen.
Given the overwhelming number of injuries the Yankees are dealing with and Happ’s struggles to open things up, it’s not unreasonable to take the Angels here. Harvey's awful start probably makes this one to stay away from, however.
