We have some MLB action on Friday as the Oakland A’s take on the Los Angeles Angels in game one of a three game AL West division set from Angel Stadium.

The Oakland A’s will look to stay hot after salvaging a series split with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday by a final score of 3-2 in the finale or their interleague series. Stephen Piscotty and Ramon Laureano each had an RBI while Marcus Semien went 2 for 4 at the dish in the win. Matt Chapman, Jed Lowrie, Khris Davis and Mark Canha each contributed a base hit as well in the victory. Mike Fiers gave up one run on four hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision in his Oakland debut. Jeurys Familia got the win to improve to 7-4 this season while Blake Treinen picked up his 29th save of the year. Brett Anderson will start game one and is 2-3 with a 4.64 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 1-3 with a 3.76 ERA and 33 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will be looking to keep their own momentum going after sweeping their three game set with Detroit, including a 6-0 victory in the series finale on Wednesday. Justin Upton led the Halos with two RBIs along with a home run while Kole Calhoun and Albert Pujols each added a solo home run. Jefry Marte went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Jose Briceno added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Angels in the win. Andrelton Simmons went 2 for 4 while Eric Young Jr. added a base hit as well to cap off the Angels’ offense in the victory. Jaime Barria got the win to improve to 7-7 this season, tossing 5.2 shutout innings while allowing just five hits while striking out five. Felix Pena will start game one and is 1-3 with a 4.97 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. This will be Pena’s first career start against Oakland.

Oakland is 37-16 in their last 53 games overall and 5-1 in Anderson’s last 6 starts while the over is 13-2-1 in their last 16 games against the AL West. Los Angeles is 7-1 in their last 8 home games and 1-5 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Oakland is 2-5 in Anderson’s last 7 starts against the Angels.

Oakland hasn’t had much luck with Anderson on the bump against the Angels over the years and the Angels have played well at home. However, Oakland is still the team in much better form and while Pena rebounded from his blowup start against Seattle, the Angels have still lost each of his last four starts. The A’s have has lots of success as of late with Anderson on the mound, so I’ll back the A’s to draw first blood on Friday in this division series.
