The Line: Los Angeles Angels -108 / Seattle Mariners -102 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels will be finishing up their MLB set on Sunday from Angel Stadium.
The Mariners took the first two games of this set 8-2 and 5-0, then on Saturday Seattle kept rolling 6-5.
For Sunday’s game, the Mariners will be sending out lefty Marco Gonzales. In his 150.2 innings and 12-9 record this year, Gonzales has a 4.24 ERA with 130 Ks and 28 BBs.
Jean Segura leads the way for the Mariners hitters this year with 166 hits, 83 runs and 60 RBI coming into the weekend. On Saturday, Segura had a hit and a run.
Over on the Angels’ side, they’re rolling with Jaime Barria on Sunday. Across 114.2 innings and a 10-9 record this season, Barria has a 3.53 ERA with 88 Ks and 37 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Angels is Andrelton Simmons, who brought 152 hits, 63 runs, 11 homers and 71 RBI into the weekend. On Saturday, Simmons came up empty.
The Mariners are 7-2 in their last nine in game four of a series sand 4-1 in Gonzales’ last five Sunday starts. Seattle is 0-5 in Gonzales’ last five starts and 1-4 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 1-4 in their last five in game four of a series and 2-6 in Barria’s last eight home starts. LA is also 1-4 in Barria’s last five starts versus a team with a winning record and 3-7 in their last 10 versus a left-handed starter.
After a bad outing against Houston where he allowed eight earned in 3.0 innings, Gonzales calmed down in his last start with one earned in 5.0 versus the Padres. As for Barria, he had two good starts (zero earned; five hits combined) going but coughed up four earned in 3.0 innings his last time up. This one is something of a coin flip and should be a good pitching matchup, but I’m going with the Mariners. The under sounds good too.
