The Line: Los Angeles Angels / Tampa Bay Rays --- Over/Under:
The Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels meet Sunday in MLB action at Angel Stadium.
The Tampa Bay Rays look to stay red hot while building on their six-game winning streak. The Rays have scored 20 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Tampa Bay Rays have won seven straight games when scoring more than one run. C.J. Cron leads the Rays with 49 hits and 27 RBI while Mallex Smith and Matt Duffy have combined for 79 hits and 24 RBI. There was no Rays starting pitcher listed at the time this article was posted.
The Los Angeles Angels could use a victory here in order to snap a five-game losing streak. The Angels have allowed 20 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Los Angeles Angels have lost seven straight games when allowing more than one run. Offensively, Andrelton Simmons leads the Angels with 54 hits and 25 RBI while Mike Trout and Justin Upton have combined for 93 hits and 62 RBI. Shohei Ohtani gets the ball, and he is 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA and 43 strikeouts this season. This will be Ohtani’s first career game against the Rays.
The Rays are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. American League West, 1-6 in their last 7 Sunday games and 0-5 in their last 5 during game 4 of a series. The Angels are 6-2 in their last 8 Sunday games, 4-0 in Ohtanis last 4 Sunday starts and 5-1 in Ohtanis last 6 starts. The Rays are 25-9 in the last 34 meetings in Los Angeles, 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and the under is 11-3-2 in the last 16 meetings.
We've faded the Los Angeles Angels a couple of times this series and made some nice money as big underdogs. However, it's tough to back the Rays here when you don't know who their pitcher is and with this being the first time they face Ohtani. Ohtani isn't the pitcher you want to see for the first time, as he fools hitters with ease and is coming off a performance in which he struck out 11 guys in 6.1 innings. Ohtani is allowing a .198 batting average and is averaging 11.85 strikeouts per nine innings. This seems like the game that can get the Angels back on track.
