The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks +145 / Los Angeles Dodgers -161 -- Over/Under: 7.5
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Friday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The Arizona Diamondbacks were playing from behind in the beginning of the game and simply don’t have the firepower they had in years past to comeback. The good news is the Diamondbacks didn’t give up despite trailing up 10 runs heading into the ninth inning, and they showed some fight by scoring three of their five runs in garbage time. That’s a good sign moving forward. The Arizona Diamondbacks hope to avoid an 0-2 for the first time since 2014. Eduardo Escobar leads the Diamondbacks with two hits while Adam Jones and Christian Walker have combined for four hits and three RBI. Robbie Ray gets the ball, and he was 6-2 with a 3.93 ERA and 165 strikeouts last season. Ray is 7-3 with a 2.68 ERA and 121 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had an offensive explosion in their comfortable opening day win, which included eight homers and 12 hits overall. With at least two runs scored in four of their eight innings at the plate, the Dodgers showed the rest of the league early just how deadly things can be. The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to start 2-0 for the second time in the last four years. Austin Barnes leads the Dodgers with three hits and one RBI while Joc Pederson and Cody Bellinger have combined for five hits and five RBI. Ross Stripling gets the ball, and he was 8-6 with a 3.02 ERA and 136 strikeouts last season. Stripling is 1-4 with a 4.46 ERA and 35 strikeouts in his career against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. National League West, 4-1 in Rays last 5 Friday starts and 17-8 in Rays last 25 road starts. The Dodgers are 5-2 in their last 7 during game 2 of a series, 37-17 in their last 54 Friday games and 5-2 in Striplings last 7 home starts. The Diamondbacks are 16-36 in the last 52 meetings in Los Angeles and the under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. The under is 23-10-4 in Striplings last 37 starts overall. The under is 7-2 in Rays last 9 road starts.
Ray was really impressive on the road last season, which included a 3.05 ERA and an allowed batting average of .195. Ray also has some solid career numbers against the Dodgers. Stripling had a 2.50 ERA at home last year with an allowed batting average of .248. While Ray and his numbers against the Dodgers provides some value in the underdog Diamondbacks, it's hard to fade the Dodgers when you compare the lineups and what took place on opening day. The Dodgers are loaded from top to bottom, while the Diamondbacks are going through a rebuild and moved a lot of their key bats. The Dodgers should roll yet again.
