Los Angeles, California
The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks +165 / Los Angeles Dodgers -175 -- Over/Under: 7.5
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Saturday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The Arizona Diamondbacks managed to win their first game of the season in 13 innings, but it’s going to be interesting to see what their pitchers have left considering they used seven different arms and threw a combined 262 pitches. The Arizona Diamondbacks will obviously take the win however they can get it, and they now have a chance to win two of the first three games for a third consecutive season. David Peralta leads the Diamondbacks with four hits while Adam Jones and Christian Walker have combined for six hits and five RBI. Zack Godley gets the ball, and he was 15-11 with a 4.74 ERA and 185 strikeouts last season. Godley is 2-3 with a 3.81 ERA and 43 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered their first loss of the year in painful fashion, and they used eight arms and threw 232 pitches. It’s even worse for the Dodgers considering they had a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth inning. The Los Angeles Dodgers also have a clutch hitting problem that dates back to last season, as this team finds itself in these spots often and struggles to come through. Joc Pederson leads the Dodgers with four hits and four RBI while A.J. Pollock and Austin Barnes have combined for seven hits and four RBI. Kenta Maeda gets the ball, and he was 8-10 with a 3.81 ERA and 153 strikeouts last season. Maeda is 4-5 with a 4.83 ERA and 67 strikeouts in his career against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 2-6 in their last 8 during game 3 of a series, 1-7 in their last 8 Saturday games and 1-4 in Godley's last 5 starts. The Dodgers are 5-1 in their last 6 Saturday games, 38-15 in their last 53 during game 3 of a series and 0-4 in Maeda's last 4 starts. The Diamondbacks are 17-37 in the last 54 meetings in Los Angeles and 3-5 in the last 8 meetings. The under is 13-3-1 in Maeda's last 17 starts overall. The over is 6-1 in Godley's last 7 road starts.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are in control of both games, but they fell apart last night and then had zero chance to win late when you consider this team time and time again can't hit with runners in scoring position. It's mind-boggling a team this talented can't come through in the clutch. Anyway, Godley was anything but on the road last year, allowing a 5.46 ERA and a batting average of .275. The Dodgers haven't had a ton of success against him in 108 career at bats, but I'm not backing him on the road based on last years numbers. The Dodgers should win this game.
