The Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Monday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The Cincinnati Reds look for a statement win after splitting their last eight games. The Reds have scored 15 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in six of their last seven games. The Cincinnati Reds are 5-5 this season when scoring at least one run. Eugenio Suarez leads the Reds with 11 hits and six RBI while Joey Votto and Tucker Barnhart have combined for 19 hits and two RBI. Luis Castillo gets the ball, and he is 1-1 with a 0.92 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. Castillo is 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA and 17 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers look for another win after losing six of their last seven games. The Dodgers have allowed 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 14 of their first 17 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers are 8-6 this season when allowing four or more runs. Offensively, Cody Bellinger leads the Dodgers with 28 hits and 22 RBI while Justin Turner and A.J. Pollock have combined for 34 hits and 18 RBI. Clayton Kershaw gets the ball, and he was 9-5 with a 2.73 ERA and 155 strikeouts last season. Kershaw is 3-2 with a 2.54 ERA and 78 strikeouts in his career against the Reds.
The Reds are 10-4 in their last 14 vs. National League West, 16-35 in their last 51 road games and 1-6 in their last 7 Monday games. The Dodgers are 30-14 in their last 44 during game 1 of a series, 42-12 in Kershaw's last 54 home starts and 73-25 in Kershaw's last 98 starts. The Reds are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Los Angeles and 6-1 in the last 7 meetings. The under is 4-0-1 in Kershaw's last 5 home starts. The under is 4-1 in Castillo's last 5 road starts.
Castillo has been brilliant for the Reds up to this point, allowing just five hits and two runs while striking out 25 batters in 19.2 innings. Kershaw hasn't pitched since late October and has been dealing with left shoulder inflammation. There's reason to consider the plus money and I wouldn't talk you off a ledge if you wanted to take the shot. I still have to give the Dodgers the edge here due to the success they have with Kershaw on the mound, especially at home. The Dodgers are 22-8 at home in their last 30 regular season games with Kershaw on the hill. The Dodgers are 13-3 in their last 16 games with Kershaw being favored. I have to lean Dodgers.
