The Line: Los Angeles Dodgers +110 / Houston Astros -120 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Friday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The Houston Astros look for a victory here after losing six of their last nine games. The Astros have scored 13 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in five of their last 10 games. The Houston Astros have won four of their last five games when scoring more than three runs. Jose Altuve leads the Astros with 134 hits and 46 RBI while Alex Bregman and George Springer have combined for 219 hits and 126 RBI. Justin Verlander gets the ball, and he is 10-6 with a 2.24 ERA and 190 strikeouts this season. Verlander is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 13 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers look for another victory after splitting their last 10 games. The Dodgers have scored 27 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their last eight games. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won five straight games when scoring more than two runs. Chris Taylor leads the Dodgers with 102 hits and 50 RBI while Matt Kemp and Cody Bellinger have combined for 194 hits and 115 RBI. Alex Wood gets the ball, and he is 7-5 with a 3.68 ERA and 103 strikeouts this season. This will be Wood’s second career game against the Astros.
The Astros are 39-19 in their last 58 during game 1 of a series, 5-1 in Verlanders last 6 road starts and 22-10 in Verlanders last 32 starts on grass. The Dodgers are 17-4 in their last 21 during game 1 of a series, 15-7 in Woods last 22 home starts and 6-2 in Woods last 8 starts. The Astros are 3-8 in the last 11 meetings in Los Angeles, 7-3 in the last 10 meetings and the under is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings.
Betting against Verlander doesn't make sense, as he's a CY Young contender, is allowing just a .195 batting average on the season and has given up just two runs in his last 11 innings. The Houston Astros also had the day off Thursday, which doesn't hurt. However, getting plus money with the Dodgers at home is tough to pass up. The Dodgers offense has woken up the last couple of games, and Wood is in his best form, allowing just six hits and two runs in his last 11.2 innings. Wood is coming off a July in which he had a 2.73 ERA in 29.2 innings with 22 strikeouts. So, while betting against Verlander and the cheap price is tough, I like the Dodgers here at the even better price.
