Los Angeles Angels (66-44) at Los Angeles Dodgers (62-49)
|Date & Time||Monday August 4, 2014, 10:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Los Angeles Dodgers -133 / Los Angeles Angels +123 --- Over/Under: 6.5
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the and Los Angeles Angels face of on Monday in Dodger Stadium for game one of the Battle of LA.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are in first place in the NL West but the race is tight at the top and their work is far from over. The Dodgers are 29-26 at home, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a loss to the Cubs on Sunday. As a team the Dodgers are hitting .258 with Yasiel Puig hitting .323, Dee Gordon hitting .294, and Matt Kemp hitting .285. The Dodgers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.33 with the starters at 3.19 and the bullpen at 3.63. For game one against the Angels the Dodgers start Zack Greinke who has allowed just one run in his last two starts. For the season Greinke has allowed 132 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 153 over 139.1 innings for a 12-6 record and a 2.65 ERA.
The Los Angeles Angels return West from the East Coast but they are on the road in their home city for this one. The Angels are 28-25 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are just a game back in the AL West. As a team the Angels are hitting .264 with Mike Trout hitting .303, Howie Kendrick hitting .286, and Kole Calhoun hitting .280. The Angels pitching staff has an ERA of 3.72 with the starters at 3.83 and the bullpen at 3.52. For game one against the Dodgers the Angels start Garrett Richards who has lost his last two starts. For the season Richards has allowed 104 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 143 over 144.1 innings for an 11-4 record and a 2.74 ERA.
The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine games, 6-2 in their last eight home games, and 20-4 in Greinke’s last 24 home starts. The Angels are 38-15 against the NL West, 36-17 in their last 53 games, and 1-5 in Richard’s last six starts as an underdog. The Angels are 15-7 in their last 22 games against the Dodgers.
This is going to be a tight one but I like for the Dodgers to win this at home as the Angels offense is compromised without the DH while the Dodgers play with eight hitters on a nightly basis and in a close matchup the slightest edge is the difference maker.
