Pittsburgh Pirates (40-44) at Los Angeles Dodgers (45-39)
|Date & Time||Tuesday July 3, 2018, 10:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Los Angeles Dodgers -218 / Pittsburgh Pirates +201 --- Over/Under: 7
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Tuesday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The Pittsburgh Pirates look for a bounce back win after splitting their last eight games. The Pirates have allowed 26 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last nine games. The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost five of their last seven games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Corey Dickerson leads the Pirates with 86 hits and 33 RBI while Josh Bell and Starling Marte have combined for 145 hits and 75 RBI. Ivan Nova gets the ball, and he is 4-5 with a 4.02 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. Nova is 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA and four strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers also need a victory here after splitting their last eight games. The Dodgers have scored 24 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 11 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 13 of their last 15 games when scoring more than one run. Matt Kemp leads the Dodgers with 84 hits and 55 RBI while Chris Taylor and Cody Bellinger have combined for 148 hits and 75 RBI. Clayton Kershaw gets the ball, and he is 1-4 with a 2.84 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. Kershaw is 2-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 69 strikeouts in his career against the Pirates.
The Pirates are 0-4 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series, 7-15 in Novas last 22 road starts and 1-6 in Novas last 7 starts vs. National League West. The Dodgers are 50-15 in Kershaws last 65 home starts, 20-8 in Kershaws last 28 Tuesday starts and 58-19 in Kershaws last 77 starts. The Pirates are 14-37 in the last 51 meetings in Los Angeles, 2-8 in the last 10 meetings and the under is 4-0 in Kershaws last 4 home starts vs. Pirates.
Nova has been really solid recently, allowing just five runs in his last 25.2 innings, but he's been rocked on the road this season where he has an ERA over five and an allowed batting average of .286. The Dodgers have lost five of the last six games in which Kershaw has pitched, and while he hasn't been lights out Kershaw, he's still pitched well enough for this team to win. The Dodgers luck with their ace is bound to turnaround eventually. While monster plus money with Nova is worth a look, I'm not betting against the Dodgers with their best pitcher after they just scored 17 runs.
