The Line: Los Angeles Dodgers -195 / San Diego Padres +180 --- Over/Under: 8
The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers square off in game one of their three game NL West division set in MLB action from Dodger Stadium on Friday.
The San Diego Padres will look to build some steam after avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Washington Nationals, taking the series finale by a final score of 3-1 on Wednesday. Christian Villanueva led the Padres with two RBIs along with a double, while Manuel Margot added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for San Diego in the win. Freddy Galvis went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles while Eric Hosmer also went 2 for 4 and Travis Jankowski added a base knock of his own in the winning effort for the Padres. Tyson Ross got the win to improve to 4-3 after giving up the one run on five hits while striking out nine over 6.2 innings of work. Brad Hand added a pair of strikeouts in the 8th and 9th en route to his 15th save of the season. Clayton Richard will start the opener and is 3-5 with a 4.87 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richard is 7-7 with a 4.44 ERA and 80 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to stay hot after winning six of their last seven games, including their series finale against the Rockies on Wednesday by a final score of 3-0. Logan Forsythe went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp each added RBIs as well to round out the scoring for L.A. in the win. Justin Turner went 2 for 4 and Joc Pederson added a pinch-hit double while Enrique Hernandez added a base hit as well in the victory. Kenta Maeda got the win to improve to 4-3 after throwing 6.2 two hit shutout innings, walking four and striking out twelve. Kenley Jansen struck out three in the 9th for his 10th save of the year. Ross Stripling will start game one and is 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 40 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stripling is 1-3 with a 4.05 ERA and 24 strikeouts against San Diego.
San Diego is 2-5 in Richard’s last 7 road starts and 4-10 in their last 14 games following a win while the over is 4-0-2 in Richard’s last 6 division starts. Los Angeles is 1-7 in Stripling’s last 8 starts against a team with a losing record and 3-8 in their last 11 home games while the under is 15-5-2 in their last 22 games against a left-handed starter. The over is 20-7-2 in the last 29 meetings between these two teams.
The Dodgers are heating up right now, however it’s not like this is the same dominant L.A. team from last season, so I have no idea why anyone would lay this kind of heavy juice. Richard has had his bumps this season, but he seems to have turned a corner with back-to-back wins. Stripling has a low ERA this season, but he’s not the kind of above average pitcher that warrants a line almost -200. I’ll take a shot with San Diego and the plus money here.
