|Date & Time||Saturday September 22, 2018, 9:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Los Angeles Dodgers -280 / San Diego Padres +230 --- Over/Under: 8
The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Saturday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The San Diego Padres look for another victory after splitting their last 12 games. The Padres have scored 17 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 13 games. The San Diego Padres have won five of their last six games when scoring more than three runs. Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 147 hits and 65 RBI while Freddy Galvis and Manuel Margot have combined for 248 hits and 112 RBI. Jacob Nix gets the ball, and he is 2-3 with a 5.75 ERA and 19 strikeouts this season. This will be Nix’s first career game against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers look for a victory after winning seven of their last nine games. The Dodgers have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 12 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 18 of their last 25 games when scoring at least one run. Cody Bellinger leads the Dodgers with 137 hits and 71 RBI while Chris Taylor and Matt Kemp have combined for 254 hits and 140 RBI. Rich Hill gets the ball, and he is 9-5 with a 4.02 ERA and 136 strikeouts this season. Hill is 5-4 with a 3.09 ERA and 71 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The Padres are 17-39 in their last 56 vs. National League West, 5-17 in their last 22 during game 2 of a series and 0-4 in their last 4 Saturday games. The Dodgers are 6-2 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series, 11-3 in Hills last 14 Saturday starts and 4-1 in Hills last 5 home starts. The Padres are 13-38 in the last 51 meetings in Los Angeles, 18-42 in the last 60 meetings and the Dodgers are 5-2 in Hills last 7 starts vs. Padres.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost back-to-back games just once since August 24, and Nix hasn't had the best start to his MLB career. In 36 innings, Nix is allowing a .289 batting average and has given up 14 runs in his last 16 innings. There's no reason why the Dodgers shouldn't be able to beat up on the young pitcher and take a step toward clinching a playoff spot. Of course, I side with the RL to increase the value of the bet.
