The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Saturday in MLB action at Dodger Stadium.
The Washington Nationals could use a win after losing five of their last six games. The Nationals have scored nine runs in their last three games and three or less runs in 10 of their last 12 games. The Washington Nationals have lost 15 of their last 16 games when scoring three or less runs. Adam Eaton leads the Nationals with 44 hits and 11 RBI while Victor Robles and Anthony Rendon have combined for 63 hits and 33 RBI. Max Scherzer gets the ball, and he is 1-4 with a 3.78 ERA and 72 strikeouts this season. Scherzer is 4-4 with a 2.77 ERA and 85 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to stay hot after winning 11 of their last 15 games. The Dodgers have scored 14 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 10 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 11 of their last 13 games when scoring at least two runs. Cody Bellinger leads the Dodgers with 55 hits and 38 RBI while Justin Turner and Max Muncy have combined for 74 hits and 47 RBI. Walker Buehler gets the ball, and he is 4-0 with a 4.95 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. This will be Buehler’s second career game against the Nationals.
The Nationals are 1-4 in their last 5 during game 3 of a series, 38-18 in Scherzers last 56 road starts and 0-5 in Scherzers last 5 starts. The Dodgers are 37-14 in their last 51 during game 3 of a series, 35-17 in their last 52 home games and 7-2 in Buehlers last 9 starts. The Nationals are 16-35 in the last 51 meetings in Los Angeles and 1-5 in the last 6 meetings. The over is 3-1-1 in Buehlers last 5 starts overall. The over is 8-3-1 in Scherzers last 12 starts overall.
The Washington Nationals are playing awful baseball from top to bottom at the moment and even Scherzer hasn't looked like himself lately. The Los Angeles Dodgers are tearing the cover off the ball and Buehler has had solid moments despite a hiccup here and there. The Dodgers should be favored. The problem is we're getting plus money with Scherzer, a pitcher who has been an underdog just twice the last three years. Struggles or not, Scherzer is a three-time CY Young winner and still is one of the best pitchers in baseball. I'll take a shot with the plus money here given that it happens once a year with the Nationals ace.
