The Line: Seattle Mariners -155 / Minnesota Twins +145 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins face off on Saturday at Safeco Field for game two of their MLB series.
The Seattle Mariners didn’t get a ton of offense on Friday but they got enough to get the win over the Twins. Nelson Cruz and Logan Morrison each hit home runs and Robinson Cano and Austin Jackson had hits as the Mariners scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez went the distance allowing five hits and striking out nine for the shutout and to raise his record to 3-0. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start James Paxton who has allowed 20 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 12 over 15 innings for an 0-1 record and 8.40 ERA.
The Minnesota Twins failed to generate offense on Friday as they took the loss in Seattle. Trevor Plouffe had two hits and Oswaldo Arcia and Kurt Suzuki had hits as the Twins didn’t score on five hits. Starting pitcher Phil Hughes allowed six hits and two runs while striking out nine going the complete game to take the loss and fall to 0-4. For Saturday’s game the Twins start Trevor May who has allowed 12 hits and six runs while striking out eight over 11.1 innings for a 101 record and a 4.76 ERA.
Seattle is 4-1 against the AL Central, 7-3 following a win, and 4-1 in Paxton’s last five starts. Minnesota is 2-5 against a left-handed starter, 11-30 against the AL West, and 1-5 in their last six road games.
Paxton hasn’t pitched well and I don’t like the price but the Mariners are still the better choice.
