The New York Mets and the Washington nationals face off on Friday art Citi Field for game two of their MLB series of NL East teams.
The New York Mets were unbeaten at home heading into Thursday’s game with Nationals but they didn’t have enough to keep that record intact as they fell to the Nationals. Lucas Duda had two hits, Michael Cuddyer had a hit, and Curtis Granderson had a hit as the Mets scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jacob deGrom allowed five hits and five runs while striking out four over 5.1 innings to take the loss. For Friday’s game the Mets start Matt Harvey who has allowed 22 hits and nine runs while striking out 31 over 26.2 innings for a 4-0 record and a 3.04 ERA.
The Washington Nationals fell behind early on Thursday but they bounced back in a big way downing the Mets in New York. Yunel Escpbar had three hits and Bryce Harper, Jayson Werth, and Ryan Zimmerman each had hits as the Nationals scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg allowed six hits and two runs while striking out seven over 5.1 innings to get the win. For Friday’s game the nationals start Max Scherzer who has allowed 20 hits and four earned runs while striking out 29 over 28.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 1.26 ERA.
New York is 12-3 against the NL East, 19-8 in their last 27 home games, and 6-1 in Harvery’s last seven home starts against a team with a losing record. Washington is 5-9 in their last 14 road games, 3-6 in their last nine games, and 1-5 against a right-handed starter. Washington is 47-17 in the last 64 meetings of these two.
