The Line: New York Mets -105 / Washington Nationals -105 --- Over/Under: 7
The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals face off on Saturday at Citi Field for game three of their MLB series of National League East teams.
The New York Mets dropped game one on Thursday in their series against the Nationals but they bounced back with a win on Friday. Michael Cuddyer hit a home run and Juan Lagares and Daniel Murphy each had two hits as the Mets scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Matt Harvey allowed five hits and struck out three over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 5-0 for the season and Jeurys Familia earned his 10th save. For Saturday’s game the Mets start Jon Niese who has allowed 28 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 14 over 23 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.74 ERA.
The Washington Nationals couldn’t get the bats going on Friday as they lost to the Mets. Michael Taylor and Wilson Ramos had two hits each and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit as the Nationals didn’t score on six hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed five hits and a run while striking out 10 over 7.0 innings o take the loss and fall to 1-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Nationals score Gio Gonzalez who has allowed 29 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 22 over 23.1 innings for a 1-2 record and a 5.01 ERA.
New York is 14-3 in their last 17 home games, 6-2 in game three of a series, and 2-7 in Niese’s last nine starts as an underdog. Washington is 23-11 in game three of a series, 2-5 in their last seven games as a favorite, and 3-8 in Gonzalez’s last 11 road games. Washington is 37-15 in their last 52 games in New York.
Gonzalez and the Nats have been less than impressive thus far and I look for the Mets to continue rolling as they get the win.
