Miami Marlins +133 / Atlanta Braves -143 O/U: 8
The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins will match up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their weekend set.
The Braves are coming off a series versus the Padres this week. Atlanta split that four-game set, wining Monday and Wednesday while dropping Tuesday’s and Thursday’s games.
For the Friday game, the Braves are sending out Kevin Gausman for the start. Over his 30.0 innings and 1-2 mark this year, Gausman has a 4.80 ERA with 33 Ks and 10 walks.
Over on the Miami side, they just finished up a quick two-game set versus the Indians. Miami fell in the Tuesday game 7-4, but bounced back to take Wednesday’s game 4-2 for the split.
The Marlins will be going with Jose Urena in the start Friday. In his 33.2 innings and 1-4 mark this year, Urena has a 5.08 ERA with 25 Ks and nine walks.
The Braves are 9-19 in their last 28 Friday games and 1-5 in their last six in game one of a series. Atlanta is 5-2 in Gausman’s last seven starts versus the NL East and 1-4 in their last five versus a right-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 26-58 in their last 84 overall and 16-38 in their last 54 versus the NL East. Miami is 8-22 in their last 30 in game one of a series and 8-24 in their last 32 after an off day.
Looking at Gausman’s resume this year so far, he’s got two quality starts with two earned in 14.0 innings, and in the other three he’s given up 14 earned over 16.0 innings.
Urena, meanwhile, is pitching well lately with three straight quality starts, but can’t get much run support on a consistent basis and has gone 1-1 in that time.
This is a tough one; if Urena is on he can help carry the Marlins but the offense has to show up. I’m going to take Miami on the value pick but realistically it’s one I’m not touching.
