The Atlanta Braves will meet the Miami Marlins down at Marlins Park on Friday to continue their weekend MLB set.
In the Thursday opener, the Braves scored twice in the second and fifth innings on the way to a 5-0 shutout win, out-hitting Miami 12-5.
For the Friday game, the Braves will be sending out RHP Mike Foltynewicz. In his 139.0 innings and 10-7 mark this year, Foltynewicz has a 2.72 ERA with 161 Ks and 54 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Braves this year is Freddie Freeman, who came into this set on 155 hits, 79 runs, 20 homers and 78 RBI. On Thursday, Freeman plated a run.
As for the Marlins, they’re going with Dan Straily on Friday. Across 103.2 innings and a 4-6 record this season, Straily has a 4.60 ERA with 87 Ks and 50 BBs.
Leading the Marlins in hitting this year is Starlin Castro, who came into this series with 141 hits, 70 runs, 10 homers and 46 RBI. In the opener, Castro went 0-for-3.
The Braves are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and 5-13 in their last 18 Friday games. Atlanta is also 1-7 in Foltynewicz’s last eight Friday starts and 5-0 in his last five starts with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 0-4 in their last four Friday games and 7-3 in Straily’s last 10 Friday starts. Miami is also 9-4 in Straily’s last 13 home starts and 1-5 in his last six starts in game two of a series.
Over his last four starts, Foltynewicz has allowed four earned in a span of 28.2 innings, with three of those starts being the quality variety. As for Straily, he’s hit a few rough patches lately, with 15 earned over his last four starts. I’m going to go with Foltynewicz to keep it going here and take the Braves.
