Miami Marlins +140 / Atlanta Braves -150 O/U: 8.5
The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins will match up on the MLB diamond Friday to continue their series.
In the Thursday opener, the Marlins put up five runs int he fourth inning on the way to a 9-2 win.
For the Friday game, the Braves will go with Julio Teheran in the starting role. Across his 130.0 innings and 6-7 record this year, Teheran has a 3.46 ERA with 119 Ks and 62 BBs.
Atlanta couldn’t score until the eighth inning on Thursday and only mustered five hits on the night. Ronald Acuna was the only Braves player with two hits, and he had a solo homer.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they’re sending out Caleb Smith in the start Friday. Over 102.0 innings and a 7-5 mark so far, Smith has a 3.35 ERA with 123 Ks and 35 BBs.
Miami’s offense came alive on Thursday with 15 hits on the evening. Five Marlins players (Berti, Castro, Anderson, Cooper and Alfaro) each had multiple hits.
The Braves are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 9-4 in their last 13 in game two of a series. Atlanta is 5-0 in Teheran’s last five Friday starts and 5-1 in his last six road starts.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 9-19 in their last 28 Friday games and 0-4 in their last four in game two of a series. Miami is 6-1 in Smith’s last seven home starts and 5-1 in his last six starts.
Teheran has been pretty solid lately. Over his last seven starts, he’s surrendered more than two earned just once, and that was his last time up (three earned) against the Reds. Still, Teheran is just 1-1 in that time.
As for Smith, he’s got three quality starts in his last six outings and is 4-1 since the break. I like Smith to pitch well here at home and give Miami a shot at a win.
