Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds will visit the Miami Marlins down at Marlins Park on Thursday to kick off their weekend MLB series.

The Reds just finished up against the Brewers this week. After splitting the first two games, on Wednesday Cincinnati lost 7-0, bagging only two hits on the night.

Cincinnati will be sending out Cody Reed for the start on Thursday. Across his 33.1 innings and 0-2 mark this year, Reed has a 4.32 ERA with 34 Ks and 13 BBs.

Scooter Gennett had a slim lead on the Reds’ hits lead entering the Brewers finale with 175 hits, 84 runs, 22 homers and 88 RBI. On Wednesday, Gennett had one hit.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they played the Nationals in their last set. Miami won Monday 8-5 but dropped the Tuesday game 4-2.

Miami is going to send out Jeff Brigham for the start in the Thursday opener. In his 7.1 innings and 0-2 mark this season, Brigham has a 7.36 ERA with four Ks and five BBs.

Tops in hitting for the Marlins this season is Starlin Castro, with 159 hits, 75 runs, 12 homers and 54 RBI. Brian Anderson is in second, not too far behind on 150 hits, 81 runs, 10 homers and 59 RBI.

The Reds are 1-5 in their last six in game one of a series and 0-6 in their last six Thursday games. Cincinnati is also 0-9 in Reed’s last nine road starts and 0-5 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 16-35 in the last 51 overall and 4-13 in their last 17 in game one of a series. Miami is 4-27 in their last 31 Thursday games and 0-4 in their last four versus the NL Central.

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag for Reed over his four starts since late August, as he’s got a couple of mediocre starts along with one bad one (six earned; 5.0 innings) and one good one (5.0 innings; zero earned). Brigham doesn’t have much to go on just yet, but he’s allowed three earned in each of his two starts this season. There’s not a whole lot to like in any facet of this game, but I like Reed to outmatch Brigham here and help the Reds get a win.

Cincinnati Reds -140
