New York Mets at Miami Marlins

The Line: New York Mets -128 / Miami Marlins +118 -- Over/Under: 7.5
The New York Mets and Miami Marlins meet Monday in MLB action at Marlins Park.
The New York Mets look to build on their 2-1 start against the Washington Nationals. The Mets enter this series hot offensively, as they’re batting .291 on the season and have produced 16 runs in their last two games. The New York Mets were an intriguing dark horse to compete in the NL East this season, and if this sort of production continues for a larger sample size, they’ll be a team to watch. Pete Alonso leads the Mets with six hits and three RBI while Wilson Ramos and Jeff McNeil have combined for eight hits and five RBI. Steven Matz gets the ball, and he was 5-11 with a 3.97 ERA and 152 strikeouts last season. Matz is 3-2 with a 2.82 ERA and 41 strikeouts in his career against the Marlins.
The Miami Marlins settled for a split against the Colorado Rockies, which has to be considered a success. The Marlins offense has picked up lately, but it’s been impressive to see this pitching staff allow zero runs in their last 12 innings. The Miami Marlins are still in the rebuild stages and will have plenty of games that are painful to watch, but you can see that progress is being made and there’s flashes of hope. Miguel Rojas leads the Marlins with three hits and three RBI while Rosell Herrera and Martin Prado have combined for six hits and two RBI. Caleb Smith gets the ball, and he was 5-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 88 strikeouts last season. Smith is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA and 15 strikeouts in his career against the Mets.
The Mets are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. National League East, 5-2 in their last 7 road games and 4-1 in their last 5 overall. The Marlins are 5-16 in their last 21 during game 1 of a series, 5-2 in their last 7 home games and 4-0 in Smith's last 4 starts. The Mets are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and 5-0 in Matz's last 5 starts vs. Marlins. The over is 5-1 in Smith's last 6 starts overall. The under is 4-1-1 in Matz's last 6 starts overall.
Matz has the ability to complete a really talented Mets starting rotation, but he's been hit or miss up to this point and was awful on the road last season, which included a 4.46 ERA and an allowed batting average of .257. The Miami Marlins held their own against a playoff caliber team in the Rockies and are playing with a little swagger to them, something they developed in spring training during an 11-game winning streak. The Marlins have also won six of the last seven games in which Smith has pitched. I'll take a stab with the plus money and the home team.
