New York Mets (47-65) at Miami Marlins (47-69)
|Date & Time||Friday August 10, 2018, 7:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Miami Marlins +101 / New York Mets -111 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The New York Mets and Miami Marlins meet Friday in MLB action at Marlins Park.
The New York Mets could use a victory here after losing six of their last nine games. The Mets have scored 15 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last 11 games. The New York Mets have lost eight of their last 10 games when scoring three or less runs. Offensively, Amed Rosario leads the Mets with 82 hits and 29 RBI while Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo have combined for 163 hits and 74 RBI. Zack Wheeler gets the ball, and he is 6-6 with a 3.89 ERA and 125 strikeouts this season. Wheeler is 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA and 64 strikeouts in his career against the Marlins.
The Miami Marlins also need a win after losing eight of their last nine games. The Marlins have allowed 11 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in seven of their last nine games. The Miami Marlins have lost 10 straight games when allowing more than one run. Offensively, Brian Anderson leads the Marlins with 127 hits and 53 RBI while Starlin Castro and Derek Dietrich have combined for 136 hits and 79 RBI. Jose Urena gets the ball, and he is 3-11 with a 4.66 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. Urena is 3-4 with a 3.49 ERA and 24 strikeouts in his career against the Mets.
The Mets are 6-14 in their last 20 during game 1 of a series, 1-6 in their last 7 vs. National League East and 5-0 in Wheelers last 5 starts. The Marlins are 1-4 in their last 5 games following an off day, 4-1 in Urenas last 5 home starts and 7-19 in Urenas last 26 starts. The Marlins are 1-4 in Urenas last 5 home starts vs. Mets, the Mets are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and the under is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Few pitchers have had the poor luck that Urena has had this season, as the Marlins lose nearly every game he pitches, and he's allowed five or more runs in three of his last four starts. The New York Mets aren't the team you should be trying to get behind these days, but Wheeler hasn't allowed a run in his last 13 innings, and the Mets have won each of his last five starts. I'm not betting this game at all, but if forced to pick, you have to like the Mets and the cheap price. Wheeler has had much more consistent success than Urena.
