The Line: Miami Marlins +190 / New York Yankees -230 --- Over/Under: 8
The New York Yankees and the Miami Marlins meet in the opener of a two game interleague set from Marlins Park in MLB action on Tuesday.
The New York Yankees will look to keep their momentum going after completing the three game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 10-2 win in the series finale on Sunday. Greg Bird led the Yanks with a home run and four RBIs, while Miguel Andujar and Kyle Higashioka added two RBIs apiece. Giancarlo Stanton and Didi Gregorius each added an RBI while Ronald Torreyes went 3 for 4 with a double. Gleyber Torres went 2 for 4 while Aaron Hicks and Brett Gardner each added a base hit to round out the Yankee offense in the win. J.A. Happ got the win to improve to 14-6 this season after giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings of work. Masahiro Tanaka will start game one and is 9-4 with a 4.03 ERA and 117 strikeouts this season. In his career, Tanaka is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Miami.
The Miami Marlins will look to keep their momentum going after winning their series with the Washington Nationals following a 12-1 win in the rubber match of the series on Sunday. J.T. Realmuto and JT Riddle each had a home run and three RBIs, with Riddle going 2 for 4 with a double as well. Rafael Ortega and Austin Dean each had a double and two RBIs, while Isaac Galloway went 3 for 5 with a double and a solo home run. Starlin Castro went a whopping 5 for 6 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to round out the scoring for the Yankees in the win, while Bryan Holaday added a two-bagger as well in the winning efforts. Jose Urena got the win to improve to 4-12 this season after tossing a complete game, giving up the one run on two hits while striking out four. Pablo Lopez will start game one and is 2-3 with a 4.79 ERA and 38 strikeouts this season. This will be Lopez’s first career start against the Yankees.
New York is 4-1 in Tanaka’s last 5 series opening starts and 10-4 in their last 14 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the NL East. Miami is 0-4 in Lopez’s last 4 starts and 7-19 in their last 26 games overall while the under is 5-1-2 in their last 8 home games. New York is 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Miami.a
Tanaka has had his share of struggles against the Marlins, but the Yankees are simply the better team here. Miami has lost six of Lopez’s last seven starts and Lopez is fresh off of a start against Atlanta where he allowed six runs, five earned, in just 5.1 innings of work. All in all, the Yankees need this game more than the Marlins, who are simply playing out the string and trying to play spoiler at this point. I’m not a fan of heavy juice though, so I’ll back the Yankees on the run line to get some value out of the bet.
