Tops for the Phillies offense this year are Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera, who each entered the week on 129 hits. On Sunday, Hernandez and Herrera were both out of the lineup.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they’re fresh off a set versus the Jays. After splitting the first two games in that set, on Sunday Miami fell 6-1.
On Monday, the Marlins will be going with Jose Urena in the start. Across his 144.0 innings and 4-12 mark this season, Urena has a 4.56 ERA with 110 Ks and 42 BBs.
Miami’s leading hitter this year is Starlin Castro, who is sitting on 150 hits, 72 runs, 11 homers and 50 RBI. Second on the team is Brian Anderson with his 143 hits, 76 runs, 10 homers and 58 RBI.
The Phillies are 20-41 in their last 61 Monday games and 1-7 in their last eight in game one of a series. Philly is 1-6 in Velasquez’s last seven road starts and 0-4 in his last four starts in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 1-4 in their last five Monday games and 3-13 in their last 16 in game one of a series. Miami is 4-12 in Urena’s last 16 home starts and 3-9 in his last 12 starts in game one of a series.
After a couple of sketchy starts, Velasquez has done better over his last two outings, with three earned in 9.0 innings. As for Urena, he’s been okay over his last pair as well with five earned in 15.0 innings and one complete game in that time. All things considered though, Philly is the better team and this is their game to take.
