The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Miami Marlins will meet up on the MLB circuit on Friday to kick off their weekend set.

Pittsburgh is coming off a series versus the Braves. The Pirates fell 13-7, 7-5 and 8-7 in the first three games of that set, then on Thursday Pitt lost a tough one 6-5.

For the Friday game, the Pirates will be sending out Steven Brault for the start. In his 41.0 innings and 2-1 record this year, Brault has a 5.05 ERA with 34 Ks and 24 BBs.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they played the Cardinals this week. Miami dropped the first two games of that set 4-1 and 7-1, but then managed a big 9-0 shutout win on Wednesday to avoid the sweep.

For Friday’s matchup, Miami will be sending out Trevor Richards in the start. Across 73.1 innings and a 3-6 record so far, Richards has a 3.31 ERA with 68 Ks and 33 BBs.

The Pirates are 10-4 in their last 14 versus a team with a winning percentage below .400 and 0-4 in their last four in game one of a series. Pitt is 5-2 in Brault’s last seven starts in game one of a series and the over is 17-5-2 in their last 24 Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 13-29 in their last 42 in game one of a series and 11-26 in their last 37 after an off day. Miami is 7-19 in their last 26 Friday games and 1-6 in their last seven overall.

Over his last three starts, Brault is pitching well. In that span, he’s got three earned on 13 hits over 15.2 total innings of work, but has just one win to show for it.

As for Richards, he’s chugging along nicely as well, with just three earned over his last four starts in 24.2 innings. This should be a pretty good pitching matchup and a tight game, but I like the well-rested Marlins here at home.
