The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins will match up on the MLB diamond Tuesday to begin their series.
San Diego just played a weekend series against the Braves. The Padres were swept in that one, falling 5-3 on Friday, 7-5 on Saturday and 4-1 in the Sunday finale.
For the Tuesday game, San Diego is going with Logan Allen in the start. Over his 18.0 innings and 2-1 record so far, Allen has a 4.50 ERA with 13 Ks and six walks.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they just completed a set versus the Mets. Miami logged an 8-4 win in the Friday opener there, but fell 4-2 on Saturday and 6-2 in the Sunday game.
On Tuesday, the Marlins starter will be Jordan Yamamoto. In his 29.0 innings and 3-0 record thus far, Yamamoto has a nice 1.24 ERA with 30 Ks and 15 BBs.
The Padres are 5-1 in the last six road games and 16-7 in their last 23 after an off day. San Diego is 3-8 in their last 11 overall and 1-6 in their last seven after a loss.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 6-2 in their last eight versus the NL West and 17-35 in their last 52 in game one of a series. Miami is 2-8 in their last 10 overall and 4-1 in Yamamoto’s last five starts.
Allen started things off well this year with two earned in 13.0 innings across a pair of victories. In his last pair of appearances however, Allen has put up seven earned in 5.0 innings.
As for Yamamoto, he’s been one of the bright spots for the Marlins this year and has three quality starts in five tries. He’s walked 11 batters over his last 15.0 innings, though.
Still, with Yamamoto on the hill at home this looks like a good spot to take Miami.
