Miami Marlins +110 / St. Louis Cardinals -120 O/U: 8
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins will match up to kick off their MLB set on Monday.
St. Louis is coming off a big rivalry series versus the Cubs this weekend. The Cardinals fell 3-1 and 9-4 in the first pair in that set, then on Sunday the sweep was on with a 5-1 St. Louis loss.
For Monday’s game, the Cardinals will be going with Michael Wacha in the start. Wacha is 3-2 with a 6.30 ERA and 48 strikeouts on his resume this season.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they played the Braves this past weekend. Miami dropped the first two games 7-1 and 1-0, then on Sunday the Marlins blew a 4-1 lead to eventually fall 7-6 in 12 innings.
In the Monday game, Miami will be going with Sandy Alcantara in the starting role. Over his 71.0 innings and 3-5 mark so far, Alcantara has a 3.80 ERA with 46 Ks and 32 BBs.
The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six Monday games and 1-6 in their last seven in game one of a series. St. Louis is 2-6 in their last eight versus the NL East and the under is 5-0 in their last five in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 13-28 in their last 41 in game one of a series and 1-4 in Alcantara’s last five home starts. Miami is 0-4 in Alcantara’s last four with four days’ rest and the over is 5-1 in their last six Monday games.
This will be Wacha’s return to the starting rotation following a bullpen stint. He looked pretty good in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief versus Cincinnati on Tuesday.
As for Alcantara, he’s got consecutive quality starts to his credit, with 13.0 innings, seven hits and one earned in that time.
With Wacha on a short leash here and Alcantara pitching pretty well lately, this seems like a good spot to try out the home-dog Marlins.
