The Line: Miami Marlins +229 / Washington Nationals -250 --- Over/Under: 7
Down at Marlins Park on Friday, the Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Nationals played the Padres this week. After winning the first two games, Washington fell 3-1 in the finale Wednesday.
The Nats are going with RHP Max Scherzer on Friday. In his 65.2 innings and 7-1 record this year, Scherzer has a 1.78 ERA with 104 Ks and 16 BBs.
Leading the Washington hitters this year is Trea Turner with 51 hits, 29 runs, six homers and 19 RBI. Howie Kendrick is second with 46 hits, 17 runs and 12 RBI to his credit.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they just finished up against the Mets. Miami dropped the first game of that set then bounced back to win the next pair and take the series.
Miami is sending out RHP Jose Urena on Friday. Over his 57.1 innings and 0-7 record this season, Urena has a 4.55 ERA with 45 Ks and 14 BBs.
Starlin Castro tops the Marlins hitters with 55 hits, 26 runs and 21 RBI, while Brian Anderson is second for Miami with his 50 hits, 25 runs and 21 RBI.
The Nats are 4-0 in their last four road games and 15-6 in their last 21 overall. Washington is also 4-0 in Scherzer’s last four Friday starts and 42-16 in his last 58 starts.
As for the Marlins, they’re 5-2 in Urena’s last seven Friday starts and 8-24 in his last 32 home starts. Miami is also 2-15 in Urena’s last 17 starts and 0-5 in his last five starts in game one of a series.
Scherzer has been very solid this season, and he’s sitting on a string of eight straight quality starts. Urena has been pretty choppy to say the least, and he’s given up 10 earned over his last three starts. I can’t find a whole lot of reasons not to pick the Nats here.
