The Miami Marlins and he Washington Nationals face off on Saturday in Miami for game two fo their series.
The Miami Marlins fought hard like they have all season but they walked away with a loss on Friday. Justin Bour hit a home run and Marcel Ozuna and Ed Lucas had hits as the Marlins scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed six hits and three runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to take the los and fall to 9-10 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Jared Cosart who was picked up from Houston at the traded deadline. In his last three starts Cosart is 1-1 with a 2.76 ERA.
The Washington Nationals are playing for the best record in the National League to get home field advantage in the post season. The Nationals got the win on Friday as Adam laRoche hit a home run, Denard Span had two hits, and Jayson Werth added a hit as the Nationals scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed five hits and two runs over 6.2 innings to get the win and go to 15-6 for the season and Drew Storen earned his eighth save. For Saturday’s game the Nationals start Jordan Zimmerman who is 12-5 for the season and 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in his last three starts.
Miami is 5-2 against a right handed starter, 2-6 as a home underdog, and 6-1 in Cosart’s last seven starts. Washington is 6-2 against a team with a losing record, 37-17 as a favorite, and 48-20 in Zimmerman’s last 68 starts. Washington is 17-7 in the last 24 meetings of these two.
This should be another close one but look for the Marlins to ride Cosart to another win.
