The Line: Milwaukee Brewers -128 / Atlanta Braves +118 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Up at Miller Park on Friday, the Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers will be picking up their MLB weekend series once again.
In the Thursday opener, the Brewers broke open a tight game with three runs in the eighth and posted a 7-2 win.
For the Friday matchup, the Braves will be going with RHP Mike Foltynewicz. In his 89.0 innings and 6-4 mark this year, Foltynewicz has a 2.02 ERA with 107 Ks and 40 BBs.
Heading up the Braves’ bats is Nick Markakis, who came into this set with 108 hits, 52 runs, 10 homers and 58 RBI. On Thursday, Markakis went 0-for-4.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they’re rolling with Freddy Peralta on Friday. Across 27.2 innings and a 3-1 mark this season, Peralta has a 2.28 ERA with 40 Ks and 12 BBs.
Tied for the Brew Crew lead in hitting coming into this set were Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain, each with 77 hits. In the opener, Yelich logged a hit, a run and an RBI.
The Braves are 2-9 in their last 11 Friday games and 1-5 in their last six in game two of a series. Atlanta is also 5-1 in Foltynewicz’s last six starts and 4-9 in his last 13 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 20-8 in their last 28 in game two of a series. Milwaukee is also 4-1 in Peralta’s last five starts and 4-1 in his last five starts on grass.
It’s pretty obvious that Foltynewicz has been pitching well this year; he hasn’t given up more than two earned in a start over his last nine appearances. Peralta has been solid, but his sample size isn’t quite the same. I expect a good matchup here, but I have to go with the Braves—it’s a pretty favorable line.
