The Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in game two of a three game NL Central division set in MLB action from Miller Park on Saturday.

The Chicago Cubs will look to bounce back after dropping the series opener on Friday by a final score of 3-2. David Bote had a home run and accounted for both Chciago RBIs in the loss while Kris Bryant went 2 for 3 and Albert Almora Jr. added a base hit as well as the Cubs cranked out just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Kyle Hendricks threw five shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Brandon Kintzler took the loss, falling to 2-1 on the year in relief. 9-6 with a 3.87 ERA and 105 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 5-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 61 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to add another one in the win column after Friday’s victory. Ben Gamel had two RBIs while Christian TElich added an RBI of his own in the victory. Lorenzo Cain and Keston Hiura had a base hit each as Milwaukee had four hits as well in the winning effort with none of the four hits going for extra bases in the win. Gio Gonzalez allowed two runs on three hits while striking out nine over 6.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Adrian Houser picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-4 on the year. Chase Anderson will start game two and is 5-2 with a 3.90 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 5-4 with a 2.73 ERA and 48 strikeouts against the Cubs.

Chicago is 1-4 in Lester’s last 5 road starts and 6-16 in their last 22 road games while the over is 4-1 in Lester’s last 5 division starts. Milwaukee is 1-4 in Anderson’s last 5 starts and 8-2 in their last 10 home games against a left-handed starter while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 Saturday games. Chicago is 6-1 in Lester’s last 7 starts against Milwaukee.

The even/plus money with Chicago is tempting given the talent that the Cubs possess in their lineup. However, Lester has allowed three or more runs in 10 of his last 12 starts and while the Cubs have won a lot of those games, Lester’s ERA on the road swells over five compared to an ERA under three at home this season. On the other side, Anderson hasn’t had the results to show for it, but he’s pitched well recently, allowing two runs or less in each of his last six starts. I said yesterday that this was going to be a big series for the Brewers and they played like it on Friday so I’ll lay the juice with the Brew Crew for the second time in as many days on Saturday.

Pick:
Milwaukee Brewers -115
