The Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers will match up on the MLB diamond to finish their series on Sunday.
In the Friday opener, the Brewers were able to eke out a 3-2 win. On Saturday, Milwaukee did it again, this time coming back in the bottom of the 10th for a walk-off 5-3 victory.
For Sunday’s game, the Cubs will send out Jose Quintana in the start. Over his 112.0 innings and 8-7 mark so far, Quintana has a 4.42 ERA with 95 Ks and 33 BBs.
Chicago scored in the top of the 10th and was potentially in position to win the game, but couldn’t finish off the Brewers on Saturday. The Cubs would finish with six hits on the night.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they’re going with Zach Davies on Sunday. Across 113.2 innings and an 8-3 record this season, Davies has a 3.17 ERA with 75 Ks and 36 BBs.
Milwaukee didn’t get going until the last three innings of Saturday’s win, but made their scoring count. Keston Hiura was the hero of the night for the Brewers with three RBI and a game-winning homer.
The Cubs are 4-0 in Quintana’s last four starts and 5-0 in his last five with seven or more days’ rest. Chicago is 1-4 in Quintana’s last five starts in game three of a series and 2-5 in his last seven on the road versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 8-2 in their last 10 Sunday games and 13-4 in their last 17 in game three of a series. Milwaukee is 4-1 in Davies’ last five starts and 6-2 in his last eight home starts.
Quintana had a string of three straight quality starts going, but stumbled a bit with five earned in 5.0 innings his last time up versus the Padres—he still got the win though, and has four in a row.
As for Davies, he had a nice run of four starts going but also faltered his last time up with six earned in 4.0 innings.
This should be an interesting pitching battle, but so long as the Cubs offense can give him some cushion I like Quintana here. I’m going Chicago.
