The Line: Milwaukee Brewers -160 / New York Mets +150 --- Over/Under: 9
Saturday afternoon in MLB action from Miller Park, the New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers will be continuing their weekend series.
In the Thursday opener, the Mets managed a 5-0 shutout win. On Friday, the Brewers blew a 3-2 lead in the ninth but struck back for a 4-3 win in extras.
Lefty Jason Vargas will be taking the mound for the Mets on Saturday. Over his 17.1 innings and 1-3 record this year, Vargas has a 9.87 ERA with 16 Ks and eight BBs.
Entering game two of this set, Asdrubal Cabrera led the Mets on 54 hits, 26 runs and 29 RBI. On Friday Cabrera logged a pair of hits.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they’re going with Chase Anderson on Saturday. In 51.1 innings and a 4-3 record this year, Anderson has a 3.86 ERA with 33 Ks and 19 BBs.
Lorenzo Cain led the way for the Brewers entering game two on 48 hits, 29 runs and 15 RBI. In the Friday matchup, Cain had a hit and a run.
The Mets are 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series and 1-4 in their last five Saturday games. New York is also 1-4 in Vargas’ last five starts and 1-4 in his last five starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 10-4 in Anderson’s last 14 starts and 9-4 in his last 13 home starts. Milwaukee is 10-4 in Anderson’s last 14 starts on grass and 5-1 in his last six starts versus the NL East.
Vargas had a bad string of starts going there for a while, allowing a whopping 25 earned across four starts, but he calmed down with zero earned in 5.0 innings his last time out. As for Anderson, he managed a quality start with two earned in 6.0 innings his last time up, but had allowed nine earned in two starts before that. I’m leaning toward the Brewers here, but with these two guys on the mound things could get out of hand. The over is a smart play in my opinion.
