Milwaukee Brewers -148 / Pittsburgh Pirates +138 O/U: 10
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers will meet up on the MLB diamond to start off their series on Friday.
The Pirates just played a set against the Astros. Pittsburgh fell Tuesday 5-1 but clobbered Houston 14-2 on Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, the Pirates kept rolling with a 10-0 shutout win.
For Friday’s game, the Pirates are going with Chris Archer in the start. Over 69.2 innings and a 3-6 record this year, Archer has a 5.56 ERA with 74 Ks and 36 BBs.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they just finished versus the Mariners. Milwaukee lost 8-3 and 4-2 in the first two games of that set, and then in the Thursday game the Brewers won 4-2.
In the Friday matchup, the Brewers will be going with Jhoulys Chacin in the start. Over his 67.1 innings and 3-8 record so far, Chacin has a 5.88 ERA with 56 Ks and 33 BBs.
The Pirates are 5-2 in their last seven Friday games and 3-11 in their last 14 in game one of a series. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in Archer’s last five starts and 2-8 in his last 10 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 1-5 in their last six Friday games and 1-5 in Chacin’s last six starts. Milwaukee is 2-5 in Chacin’s last seven starts with five days’ rest and 12-4 in his last 16 in game one of a series.
Archer has been pretty up and down lately, with two bad starts (11 earned in 11.0 combined innings) and two good ones (two earned in 11.0 combined innings) in his last four.
As for Chacin, he’s been all over the place as well, with 14 earned over his last three starts in a span of 12.0 innings. He’s also 0-6 since May began.
I’m not super thrilled about either one of these pitchers right now, but I like Archer a little better. I’m going Pittsburgh.
