Milwaukee Brewers -150 / Pittsburgh Pirates +140 O/U: 10
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers will match up to finish their MLB series on Sunday.
In the Friday opener of this series, the Pirates squeezed by on a 3-2 win. On Saturday, the Brewers knocked out a 3-1 win.
For the Sunday game, the Pirates are bringing out Steven Brault for the start. Over his 52.0 innings and 3-1 mark so far, Brault has a 4.50 ERA with 44 Ks and 27 BBs.
Pittsburgh logged six hits in the Saturday loss, but couldn’t do much on the scoreboard. Both Colin Moran and Kevin Newman had two hits, and combined for a run and an RBI.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they’re going with Zach Davies in the start Sunday. Across his 86.1 innings and 7-2 mark so far, Davies has a 3.34 ERA with 57 Ks and 27 BBs.
Milwaukee was out-hit 7-6 but was very advantageous on Saturday. Eric Thames had a great night with two hits, a homer and a triple with two RBI.
The Pirates are 6-2 in Brault’s last eight starts and 8-2 in his last 10 versus the NL Central. Pitt is 6-2 in Brault’s last eight starts on grass and the over is 13-3 in their last 16 in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 4-1 in Davies’ last five home starts and 7-2 in his last nine versus a team with a losing record. Milwaukee is 2-5 in Davies’ last seven starts with four days’ rest and 5-2 in his last seven versus the NL Central.
Brault has been pretty consistent since around the middle of May, giving up more than two earned just once (three) across his last seven starts. He’s also 3-0 in that time.
As for Davies, he had a solid run going for a little while but has given up nine earned on 15 hits across his last two starts in 6.2 innings.
Brault seems to be pitching better than his counterpart right now, so I’m going Pirates here.
