The Line: Milwaukee Brewers -130 / Pittsburgh Pirates +120 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers meet for game one of their three game NL Central division set from Miller Park in MLB action on Friday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back after being swept by the Atlanta Braves following a 2-1 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. Colin Moran accounted for Pittsburgh’s lone RBI, while Gregory Polanco added a double and Francisco Cervelli added a base hit of his own as Pittsburgh cranked out just three hits as a team in the losing effort. Trevor Williams gave up just one run on two hits while striking out four over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Kyle Crick ended up with the loss, falling to 2-2 this season in the process. Joe Musgrove will start game one and is 5-7 with a 3.31 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. This will be Musgrove’s second career start against Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to keep their momentum going after winning their series with Cincinnati following a 4-0 win in the rubber match on Wednesday. Christian Yelich led the charge, going 4 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Lorenzo Cain and starting pitcher Freddy Peralta each added an RBI with Cain going 3 for 5 at the dish. Ryan Braun added a pair of doubles while Manny Pina went 2 for 3 at the dish. Travis Shaw added a two-bagger of his own, while Jonathan School added a base hit as well in the winning effort for the Brew Crew. Peralta got the win on the mound after throwing seven innings of three hit, shutout baseball, striking out seven while Jeremy Jeffress picked up his 6th save of the season. Wade Miley will start game one and is 2-2 with a 2.18 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 2-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 38 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 2-8 in their last 10 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 road games while the under is 10-1 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record. Milwaukee is 4-11 in their last 15 division matchups and 14-6 in their last 20 home games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-2 in Miley’s last 7 starts overall. Pittsburgh is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The Pirates won Musgrove’s lone career start against the Brewers, but that was when the Pirates were on fire and Musgrove still allowed five runs over 7.2 innings in that game. The Brewers are the team that’s been playing better baseball as of late, and that’s a problem for Pittsburgh when the Pirates are struggling to put runs on the board. I think the Brewers and the reasonable price are the play on Friday.
