The Line: Milwaukee Brewers -140 / Pittsburgh Pirates +120 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in the rubber match of their three game NL Central division set from Miller Park in MLB action on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to win the set after evening up the series at one win apiece following a 9-1 win in game two on Saturday. Adam Frazier led the Pirates with three RBIs, going 1 for 2 with a home run, while Gregory Polanco went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Sean Rodriguez, Josh Harrison and Colin Moran each had an RBI, with Harrison adding a double while Moran went 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles. Francisco Cervelli went 2 for 5 with a two-bagger while Starling Marte added a double of his own. Kevin Newman and Josh Bell each added a base hit to round out Pittsburgh’s offense in the winning effort. Jameson Taillon got the win to improve to 10-9 this season after allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Chris Archer will start game three and is 4-6 with a 4.41 ERA and 121 strikeouts this season. This will be Archer’s second career start against Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to rebound and win the series after dropping game two on Saturday. Christian Yelich accounted for Milwaukee’s only RBI with a solo home run and Mike Moustakas added a double while Lorenzo Cain, Travis Shaw, Jesus Aguilar and Eric Thames each added a base hit to round out Milwaukee’s offense as the Brew Crew put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Jhoulys Chacin took the loss to fall to 13-5 this season after allowing three runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out seven over six innings of work. Chase Anderson will start game three and is 8-7 with a 3.92 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 6-4 with a 3.34 ERA and 59 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 8-3 in their last 11 game 3 matchups while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 Sunday games. Milwaukee is 5-1 in Anderson’s last 6 home starts against a team with a losing record and 2-10 in their last 12 Sunday games while the under is 10-1-2 in Anderson’s last 13 division starts. Milwaukee is 5-2 in Anderson’s last 7 starts against Pittsburgh
Archer had a decent start to his tenure with Pittsburgh, but the fact is that Archer is 1-1 with a 4.91 in four starts with the Pirates. Anderson despite having a rough stretch last week, is still a solid arm and has had Pittsburgh’s number over the years and the Brewers have also been playing the better baseball of the two over the last week, so I’ll lay the juice with the Brewers to win the set on Sunday.
