The Line: Milwaukee Brewers -128 / St. Louis Cardinals +118 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up at Miller Park on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals will be visiting the Milwaukee Brewers in MLB action.
St. Louis is coming off a set against the Mets. The Cardinals dropped the first pair of games, then on Sunday the losing halted with a 5-1 victory.
For the Monday game, the Cards will be going with RHP Miles Mikolas in the start. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Mikolas (he’s been playing in Japan); he posted 10 starts with a 2-5 record and 6.44 ERA in 57.1 innings back in 2014.
Coming out of the week, Jose Martinez was the Cardinals’ top hitter with five hits, a homer and three RBI. In the Sunday game, Marcell Ozuna had a nice outing with three hits and two RBI.
Over on the Brewers’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus San Diego Thursday through Saturday. Milwaukee won all three of those games for the sweep 2-1, 8-6 and 7-3.
The Brewers will be going with Zach Davies on Monday. In his 33 starts last year, Davies had a 17-9 record, a 3.90 ERA and 124 Ks in 191.1 innings of work.
Milwaukee’s leading hitter this year is Lorenzo Cain, with a .571 BA, eight hits, three runs and three RBI. Christian Yelich is also off to a good start with his seven hits, four runs and three RBI.
The Cardinals are 6-1 in their last seven Monday games and 1-4 in their last five versus the NL Central. The over is 5-1-1 in St. Louis’ last seven Monday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 4-0 in their last four games following an off day and 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series. Milwaukee is also 1-5 in the last six Monday games and 1-4 in Davies’ last five Monday starts.
Just looking at things on the surface here, St. Louis will have an uphill battle to stay in this one. Mikolas’ most recent MLB numbers aren’t great, but to his credit he did play well in Japan. Still, the Cardinals are pretty flat and uninspiring overall on offense so I can’t pick that way with any confidence. I’m going with the Brewers.
