Out at Miller Park on Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers will be playing the finale of their weekend MLB series.
The Brewers won the first two games of this set 11-3 and 2-1, then on Saturday the Cards eked out a 3-2 win.
For the Sunday game, the Cardinals will be bringing out RHP Luke Weaver. In his 78.2 innings and 3-6 record this year, Weaver has a 4.69 ERA with 68 Ks and 30 BBs.
Jose Martinez leads the Cardinals in hitting this year with 77 hits, 32 runs, 10 homers and 44 RBI entering the weekend. On Saturday, Martinez was 0-for-2 with two walks.
On the Brewers’ side, they’re rolling with Jhoulys Chacin on Sunday. Across his 87.2 innings and 6-2 record this year, Chacin has a 3.18 ERA with 66 Ks and 35 BBs.
Coming into the weekend, Lorenzo Cain led the Brew Crew with 77 hits, 47 runs and 26 RBI. In game three, Cain plated a run.
The Cardinals are 4-1 in the last five Sunday games and 9-3 in Weaver’s last 12 road starts. St. Louis is also 1-4 in Weaver’s last five starts with four days’ rest and 10-4 in his last 14 starts versus the NL Central.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games and 10-2 in Chacin’s last 12 starts. Milwaukee is 5-0 in Chacin’s last five home starts and 4-1 in his last five starts versus the NL Central.
Weaver has been fairly consistent lately, if not solid. He’s given up four earned in each of his last three starts and hasn’t gone more than 5.1 innings. As for Chacin, he’s got two straight quality starts, giving up one earned on 10 hits in 12.1 innings. I’m going to stick with the hot hand here and go for the Brewers.
