The Line: Milwaukee Brewers -119 / St. Louis Cardinals +109 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Thursday in Milwaukee as they begin their huge series that could decide the NL Central.
The Milwaukee Brewers are in a tailspin and they have fallen out of the lead in the NL Central and have a slim lead for the final Wildcard spot in the NL. The Brewers are 36-31 at home, 2-8 in their last 10 games, and they have lost eight games in a row. As a team the Brewers are hitting .254 with Aramis Ramirez hitting .303, Jonathan Lucroy hitting .297, and Carlos Gomez hitting .282. The Brewers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.77 with the starters at 3.75 and the bullpen at 3.80. For game one against the Cardinals Milwaukee starts Wily Peralta who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Peralta has allowed 171 hits and 70 earned runs while striking out 122 over 165 innings for a 15-9 record and a 3.82 ERA.
The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten hot at the right time and they have the lead in the NL Central with 23 games left to play. The Cardinals are 32-35 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have won five games in a row. As a team the Cardinals are hitting .255 with Jon Jay hitting .316, Matt Adams hitting .292, and Yadier Molina hitting .285. The Cardinals pitching staff has an ERA of 3.67 with the starters at 3.64 and the bullpen a 3.71. For game one against the Brewers the Cardinals start Michael Wacha who makes his return from the 60 day DL. For the season Wacha has allowed 75 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 83 over 90.1 innings for a 5-5 record and a 2.79 ERA.
Milwaukee is 1-5 against the NL Central, 0-7 against a right handed starter, and 11-5 in Peralta’s last 16 starts. St. Louis is 2-5 in their last seven road games against a right-handed starter, 10-4 in game one of a series, and 4-1 in Peralta’s last five home starts. St. Louis is 20-8 in their last 28 games in Milwaukee.
Expect a playoff type game but also expect hitting and I like the over in this one.
