The Line: Minnesota Twins -175 / Chicago White Sox +165 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Up at Target Field on Thursday, the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins will be meeting up to kick off their MLB series.
The Sox are coming off a set versus the Rays. Chicago lost the first pair of games by one run apiece, then on Wednesday got revenge with a 2-1 win.
Lucas Giolito will get the call for the Sox on Thursday. In his 11.2 innings and 0-1 mark this season, Giolito has put up a 6.17 ERA with five Ks and seven BBs.
Heading up the White Sox offense coming into Wednesday was Avisail Garcia with 12 hits, five runs and three RBI. In the finale, Garcia managed to go 1-for-4.
Over on the Twins’ side, they just finished up against the Astros. The two teams split the first pair of games, then on Wednesday in the finale, the Twins took a thrilling 9-8 win.
Jose Berrios will be taking the mound for the Twins on Thursday. In his 13.2 innings and 1-1 record this year, Berrios has a 3.29 ERA with 13 Ks and one walk.
Both Brian Dozier and Joe Mauer each had 11 hits coming into Wednesday, with a combined 14 runs, four homers and seven RBI. On Wednesday, Dozier and Mauer combined for two hits, two runs and an RBI.
The White Sox are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games and 1-4 in their last five in Game 1 of a series. Chicago is also 4-1 in Giolito’s last five starts versus the AL Central and the over is 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 5-2 in their last seven Thursday games and 8-1 in Berrios’ last nine home starts. Minnesota is also 4-1 in Berrios’ last five Thursday starts and 2-7 in his last nine starts in game one of a series.
Giolito has had some ups and downs already in this young season, as has the Sox’ offense. Over on the Twins’ side, they’re not necessarily blowing anybody away but seem to be playing better baseball—not to mention the team seems to do pretty well behind Berrios. I’m going Twins here.
