Minnesota Twins -195 / Detroit Tigers +167 O/U: 8
The Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins will meet up on the MLB diamond to complete their weekend series Sunday.
Friday’s opening game in this set was postponed due to snow, then in the Saturday matchup Minnesota scored four runs in the third inning and hung on for a comeback 4-3 win.
For the Sunday game, the Tigers will be sending out Jordan Zimmerman in the start. Over his 18.0 innings and 0-1 mark this year, Zimmerman has a 2.50 ERA with 14 Ks and three walks.
Detroit came up with 10 hits on Saturday but the three runs just weren’t enough. Christin Stewart hit a solo homer in that one.
As for the Twins, they’re going with Jose Berrios in the start Sunday. In 20.2 innings and a 1-1 record this season, Berrios has a 2.18 ERA with 21 Ks and four walks.
Minnesota was out-hit 10-5 on Saturday, but got some timely knocks when they needed them. Eddie Rosario put up two hits and two RBI in that game, and Jorge Polanco drove in a run.
The Tigers are 9-24 in the last 33 in game two of a series and 4-0 in Zimmerman’s last four starts with four days’ rest. Detroit is 1-4 in Zimmerman’s last five starts in game two of a series and the over is 6-2-1 in his last nine starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 1-5 in Berrios’ last six Sunday starts and 13-4 in his last 17 starts versus the AL Central. Minnesota is 2-8 in Berrios’ last 10 starts versus a team with a winning record and 21-5 in his last 26 home starts.
Zimmerman came out of the gate strong this year, and logged a pair of quality starts before faltering a bit in his last outing (4.1 innings; four hits; four earned). Still, Zimmerman’s overall numbers look really strong so far.
As for Berrios, he has three straight quality starts and a tough-luck loss on his resume, and I like him to keep it going here. Should be a fun pitching matchup to watch, though. I’ll go Twins.
