The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins will meet up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series Monday.

New York is coming out of a set versus the Rockies. After winning 8-2 Friday and 11-5 Saturday, on Sunday the Yankees fell 8-4 to miss the sweep.

For Monday’s outing, New York will be going with CC Sabathia in the start. Sabathia is 5-4 with a 4.06 ERA and 77 Ks this year.

Over on the Twins’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the A’s. Minnesota won the Thursday edition of that set but then dropped 5-3 Friday and 5-4 Saturday. On Sunday the Twins eked out a walk-off win 7-6.

For the Monday game, the Twins will be going with Martin Perez in the start. Over 101.0 innings and an 8-3 mark so far, Perez has a 4.10 ERA with 89 Ks and 41 BBs.

The Yankees are 6-1 in their last seven Monday games and 37-14 in their last 51 in game one of a series. New York is 7-3 in their last 10 road games and the under is 3-1-1 in their last five in game one fo a series.

Meanwhile, the Twins are 5-1 in Perez’s last six starts with four days’ rest and 4-1 in his last five in game one of a series. Minnesota is 5-1 in Perez’s last six after a quality start and the under is 5-0-1 in their last six Monday games.

Perez has two quality starts in his last three outings, with seven combined earned runs in 19.0 innings during that trio.

As for New York, they weren’t able to do much of anything on the mound Sunday so Sabathia will really need to set the tone here (and needless to say, he’ll need the Yankees bats to pick back up again).

I’m siding with the Yankees here but it’ll probably be a close one.

Pick:
New York Yankees -110
