Up at Target Field on Thursday, the Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins will be meeting up to begin their MLB series.

The Mariners are coming off a two-game set versus the Giants. Seattle won on Tuesday, then on Wednesday the Mariners lost big 10-1.

On Thursday, the Mariners will be going with LHP James Paxton for the start. In his one start this year, Paxton put up 4.2 innings with six earned runs in a loss.

The Mariners’ offense is off to a decent start this year. Heading into Wednesday, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Dee Gordon and Robinson Cano each had seven hits. On Wednesday, Cano managed a pair of hits with a run.

Over on the Twins’ side, they’re fresh off a pair versus the Pirates. Minnesota lost 5-4 on Monday and on Wednesday the Twins struck back with a 7-3 victory.

Minnesota will be going with RHP Kyle Gibson on Thursday. In his lone start back on March 31, Gibson managed six innings with zero earned for a victory.

Leading the way for the Twins’ offense coming into Wednesday was Brian Dozier, with six hits, six runs and three solo homers. In the Wednesday game, Miguel Sano ripped three hits with two runs.

The Mariners are 4-1 in their last five during game one of a series and 3-8 in their last 11 Thursday games. Seattle is also 5-2 in Paxton’s last seven road starts and 1-5 in his last six starts.

Meanwhile, the Twins are 14-5 in their last 19 home games and 4-0 in Gibson’s last four home starts. Minnesota is also 6-0 in Gibson’s last six starts with four days’ rest and 9-4 in their last 13 versus a left-handed starter.

I’m a little torn on this one, but that means it should be a good matchup. I like the Mariners’ offense better right now, but with Gibson on the mound nothing will be easy for Seattle. With that in mind, I think I have to lean toward the Twins for the win but otherwise I’m just going to stay away and enjoy the game.

Pick:
Minnesota Twins -109
