The Washington Nationals and the Minnesota Twins meet in game two of their three game interleague set in MLB action from Target Field on Wednesday night.

The Washington Nationals will look to rebound after dropping the series opener on Tuesday by a final count of 5-0. Trea Turner and Howie Kendrick each had a base knock as the Nationals mustered up just two hits as a team in the losing effort with the rest of the squad batting 0 for 21 with 5 strikeouts. Anibal Sanchez allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five over seven innings of work, taking the loss to fall to 8-8 on the year. Stephen Strasburg will start game two and is 16-6 with a 3.50 ERA and 222 strikeouts this season. This will be Strasburg’s second career start against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to keep the ball rolling after their series opening win on Tuesday. Jorge Polanco and Mitch Garver each had two RBIs with Garver homering while Polanco had a double. Ehire Adrianza added an RBI to round out Minnesota’s scoring as a team in the loss while Luis Arraez went 2 for 4 with a double and Eddie Rosario added a two-bagger as well in the defeat. Willians Astudillo chipped in a base knock as well as the Twins had just six hits as a team in the losing effort. Jose Berrios got the win to improve to 12-8 on the year after tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits with four strikeouts on the way to the win. Martin Perez will start game two and is 10-6 with a 4.75 ERA and 121 strikeouts this season. This will be Perez’s second career start against Washington.

Washington is 40-14 in Strasburg’s last 54 road starts and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the over is 4-0 in Strasburg’s last 4 interleague starts. Minnesota is 4-1 in Perez’s last 5 starts and 12-4 in their last 16 games overall while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Washington is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.

The plus money is tempting with Minnesota at home as the Twins have been playing solid baseball and are still fighting for a division title. However, Strasburg has been Washington’s stopper this season, and has been rock solid in interleague play, posting a career 11-3 record. I just don’t trust Perez to keep his momentum going either, and I think the fact that Washington is this much of a favorite on the road against the Twins just goes to speak to the quality of pitcher we’re getting with Strasburg here. I’ll lay the juice with the Nats on the road in this one.

Washington -143
