New York, New York
New York Mets -115 / Atlanta Braves +105 O/U: 7.5
The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets will match up in MLB action as they kick off their series on Friday.
Atlanta just completed a series versus the Cubs. The Braves fell Monday but took both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games. In the finale Thursday, Atlanta lost 9-7.
For Friday’s outing, the Braves will be sending Mike Soroka to the hill. Over 78.1 innings and an 8-1 mark so far, Soroka has a 2.07 ERA with 63 Ks and 19 BBs.
Over on the Mets’ side, they just finished versus the Phillies. New York dropped the first three games of that set 13-7, 7-5 and 5-4. In the Thursday game, the Mets fell once again 6-3.
In the Friday matchup, the Mets are going with Jacob deGrom for the start. Across 97.0 innings and a 4-6 record, deGrom has a 3.25 ERA with 121 Ks and 20 BBs.
The Braves are 9-3 in their last 12 versus the NL East and 6-2 in their last eight Friday games. Atlanta is 5-0 in Soroka’s last five starts on grass and 13-3 in his last 16 starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 0-7 in their last seven in game one of a series and 8-20 in deGrom’s last 28 home starts. New York is 1-4 in deGrom’s last five Friday starts and 1-5 in his last six starts.
Soroka stumbled a bit versus the Pirates a couple of starts ago, but he’s been better since with just three earned on seven hits in 8.0 innings.
As for deGrom, he’s been cruising lately with five straight quality starts, giving up a total of nine earned in between them (and is 1-1 in that time).
This is a pretty good pitching matchup based on the numbers. Both Soroka and deGrom should do well here, but with the Mets’ sketchy offense I have to take the Braves in a close and low-scoring affair.
