New York Mets -200 / Atlanta Braves +185 O/U: 7.5
The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets will meet up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their weekend series.
The Braves are coming out of a set against the Marlins this week. Atlanta took wins 5-1 Tuesday and 5-0 Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, Atlanta got by on a 3-2 victory.
For Friday’s matchup, the Braves will send out Mike Foltynewicz in the start. Across his 75.1 innings and 4-5 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 6.09 ERA with 69 Ks and 27 BBs.
Over on the Mets’ side, they’re fresh out of a series versus Cleveland. New York put up wins 9-2 Tuesday and 4-3 in the Wednesday game, then on Thursday the Mets won again in a rain-shortened game.
The Mets will send out Jacob deGrom in the start Friday. Over 155.0 innings and an 8-7 record this season, deGrom has a 2.61 ERA with 194 Ks and 38 BBs.
The Braves are 12-4 in their last 16 Friday games and 6-0 in Foltynewicz’s last six starts. Atlanta is 4-1 in Foltynewicz’s last five road starts and 3-9 in his last 12 Friday starts.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 2-6 in their last eight Friday games and 2-5 in deGrom’s last seven home starts. New York is 0-6 in deGrom’s last six Friday starts and 9-3 in their last 12 versus the NL East.
Foltynewicz has been okay over his last three starts, but not stellar. In that time he’s put up nine earned in 16.0 innings on a combined 20 hits, but is also 2-0.
As for deGrom, he’s helped buoy this Mets team into flirting with a playoff spot and hasn’t lost a game since June 28. He’s also got eight quality starts in his last 10 tries.
I didn’t think they’d be relevant at this point in the season, but I’m on the Mets train here, especially with deGrom out on the mound.
