The Line: New York Mets -150 / Atlanta Braves +130 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets meet in game one of their three game set from Citi Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Atlanta Braves will look to keep their momentum going after winning five straight games, completing a four game sweep of the Phillies including a 2-1 win in the series finale on Sunday. Lane Adams had a home run and a double while accounting for both Atlanta runs in the win, while Adam Duvall added a double and Anibal Sanchez added a base hit to cap off the Braves offense. Sanchez also got the win on the mound after allowing one run on four hits over five innings of work to improve to 7-6 while Shane Carle picked up his 1st save. Touki Toussaint will start game one and is 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. This will be Toussaint’s first career start against the Mets.
The New York Mets will look to finish the season strong after taking three of four from the Nationals, including an 8-6 win in the series finale on Sunday. Michael Conforto went 2 for 6 with a triple and three RBIs while Kevin Plawecki had a double and two RBIs. Amed Rosario, Jeff McNeil and Jay Bruce each had an RBI, with McNeil going 4 for 5 while Bruce added a double. Dominic Smith and Todd Frazier each had a double while Austin Jackson chipped in a base hit to cap off the Mets’ offense in the win. Steven Matz gave up three runs in three innings, not factoring in the decision, while Drew Gagnon got the win and Anthony Swarzak picked up his 4th save of the season. Noah Syndergaard will start game one and is 12-4 with a 3.36 ERA and 144 strikeouts this season. In his career, Syndergaard is 0-2 with a 4.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall and 18-6 in their last 24 games following a win while the over is 4-0 in Toussaint’s last 4 starts overall. New York is 6-0 in Syndergaard’s last 6 home starts and 5-1 in their last 6 home games while the over is 4-1 in Syndergaard’s last 5 series opening starts. Atlanta is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in New York.
This game is hard for me because the Braves have clinched so they have nothing but momentum to play for and with the Mets playing some of the best ball with Thor on the hill, you’d think it’d be an easy pick. But Thor has had issues against the Braves in his career, with an ERA over four and I’m not getting enough plus money to trust Toussaint in this situation, so I’ll side with the over between two clubs that can really mash the ball.
