New York Mets +110 / Cincinnati Reds -120 O/U: 8
The Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets will meet up on the MLB diamond for game two of their set Tuesday.
In the Monday opener of this series, the Reds eked out a 5-4 victory thanks to a run in the top of the ninth.
For Tuesday’s game, the Reds will be sending out Luis Castillo in the start. Over his 36.2 innings and 3-1 mark this season, Castillo has a 1.23 ERA with 43 Ks and 14 BBs.
In the Monday win, Cincinnati’s Jesse Winkler provided the decisive run in the ninth inning on a solo homer. Jose Peraza added two hits and an RBI in that one as well.
Over on the Mets’ side, they’re going with Jason Vargas in the starting role Tuesday. Across 15.0 innings and a 1-1 record so far, Vargas has a 7.20 ERA with 10 Ks and nine walks.
New York’s offense could only come up with six hits on the night Monday, and no player had more than one knock.
The Reds are 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series and 4-1 in Castillos’ last five starts in game two of a series. Cincinnati is 4-1 in Castillo’s last five Tuesday starts and 5-2 in his last seven versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 9-3 in their last 12 in game two of a series and 15-36 in their last 51 Tuesday games. New York is 8-3 in Vargas’ last 11 starts and 1-7 in his last eight Tuesday starts.
It’s been a great season for Castillo so far; he’s got four of six quality starts and hasn’t allowed more than two earned in any start yet this year.
As for Vargas, he stumbled out of the gate on 10 earned from 6.1 innings, but since has calmed down with two earned on six hits in 8.2 innings over two starts.
Still, I’m rolling with Castillo to stay hot here and help the Reds win.
